How do I Import Trades from my Platform?

Export your trades #
The first step is to export your trades from your trading platform as a file. Below, you will be able to click on the name of your trading platform to view the steps required to export the data. This information is also visible on the Import Trades screen within Tradecraft. If you do not see your platform listed, please send us an email, and we will add it.
Jigsaw Journalytix
- Log into journalytix
- Go to “My Trades”
- At the top of screen select date
- Near middle left of screen there’s a drop down that is defaulted to “Show 15” toggle it to “Show All”
- Middle right of screen there is a blue “Save” icon. You must click the “Grey XLSX” logo just to the left of the blue “Save” icon to export
Sierra Chart
- Open the Trade Activity Log: select Trade >> Trade Activity Log
- Make sure that the following columns are present (the order does not matter):
- Symbol
- Trade Type
- Entry DateTime
- Exit DateTime
- Entry Price
- Exit Price
- Trade Quantity
- Max Open Quantity
- Max Closed Quantity
- Profit/Loss
- Max Open Profit
- Max Open Loss
- Commission
- Account
- Make sure that the Profit/Loss (P/L) Format option is set to Currency Value.
- Make sure that the Use Commission checkbox is unchecked (Your Profit/Loss column should display the gross P&L of the trade).
- Select File >> Save Log As on the Trade Activity Log menu.
- On the Save Trade Activity Log window, enter the file name in the Filename box and press Save.

TopStep X
- Create a Trades component inside your TopstepX platform
- Click on the Export button and download the csv file to your computer
- TopstepX does not specify the account number in the exported file, so you have to enter it manually in the form above before importing the csv file.
NinjaTrader
- Open the Trade Performance window in ninjatrader
- Select Trades in the “Display” dropdown
- You need to make sure that the quantities in the table are displayed in Currency format. In order to do this, right click on the Trade Performance window and select Properties. Under the “General” section of the properties modal, set the Display field to Currency.
- Ninjatrader can export dates in MM/DD/YYYY format or DD/MM/YYYY format. Make sure to select the correct format for your file in the “Date format” input above.
- Export the trades as a csv file by right clicking and selecting Export.
Tradovate
- Open the Position History window in tradovate
- Export the trades as a csv file by clicking the Download button.
Quantower
Rithmic (R-Trader Pro)
- In R-Trader Pro, open the Order History window or the Recent Orders window.
- In the Completed Orders section right click and open the “Add/Remove columns” menu. Make sure that the following columns are selected: Account | Status | Remarks | Buy/Sell | Qty To Fill | Symbol | Qty Filled | Avg Fill Price | Limit price | Order Number | Create Time | Update Time | Commission
- Export the data as a .csv file using the “Export as CSV” option in the window header.
- Import the .csv file in the journal using the form above.

TradingView
- Click “Export data…” in the dropdown with your trading account’s name.
- In the popup that appears, select “History” and click export.
- Import the .csv file in the journal using the form above.
Tradezella
When importing trades from Tradezella, your tradezella tags and playbooks are imported as well. To ensure a successful import, make sure to follow the instructions below.
- First, go to settings -> tags management. Here you can see your tag categories and your actual tags. The Tradezella tag categories will become Tag Groups on your Tradecraft journal.
- In the popup that appears, select “History” and click export.
- Import the .csv file in the journal using the form above.
In this example, there are three tag categories in the Tradezella journal: Custom Tags, HFT Mean and Mistakes. - Now go to the Trades section of your Tradezella journal. Click on the gear icon to open up the “select columns” menu.
- In the menu that pops up, make sure to select the column names matching the Tag Categories in your journal (highlighted in yellow), plus the trade data columns specified in the next screenshot. Don’t add more columns, they need to match exactly the selected columns in the screenshot.
- Once you have selected the correct columns, click “Update” to close the menu. You are now ready to export the trades. Select then by clicking on the checkbox on the table header, click “bulk actions” and select “Export trades to CSV” in the dropdown.
- Note that tradezella only exports the trades you selected. In the popup menu that appears, make sure that you are only exporting the active columns:
Now that you have your csv, import it here on Tradecraft using the menu above this tutorial. All your trades and tags will be created automatically.
Custom
This is for development use only and will not work for any trade platform imports.
Import Trades into Tradecraft #
The Import Trades section is accessible from the left navigation menu within the journal, and is indicated with a document icon with an arrow (see image below). Click on this icon to be brought to the trade importer screen.

Click on the select platform dropdown to choose your trading platform, then follow the instructions as indicated above for your platform to generate the file needed to be imported.

Click the ‘Choose file’ button, and navigate to the folder on your computer where you have saved the file from your trading platform.

Click on the ‘Upload’ button to start the upload process.

Once you see the “Success” message, your trades have been imported and you can now access your journal to begin the tagging process. If you receive an error message, please try uploading again and if you receive subsequent upload failures, please send us an email to assist with troubleshooting.
